Do I need to choose a time slot?
No. Your ticket is dated but not timed — it is valid any time during opening hours on the day you choose. Just turn up when it suits you.
Is the funicular included?
Yes, the return ride is included in every ticket. You can still walk one or both ways if you prefer; the paths from the old town take about 20 minutes.
Which reduced ticket do I need — child, student or senior?
The castle sells three reduced tickets, all the same price: a child ticket for ages 7 to 18, a student ticket, and a senior ticket. Pick the one that matches you and bring the matching photo ID — age for the child ticket, a valid student card for the student ticket, or ID for the senior rate. The castle checks it at entry, not us.
Do children pay?
Children under 7 enter free and do not need a ticket at all. From 7 to 18 they take the child ticket, or travel on a family ticket.
What does the family ticket cover?
Up to two adults and at least one child aged 7 to 18, on one ticket, with funicular rides for everyone. If your group is larger than that, book the extra people as individual tickets.
How long should I allow?
About two hours for the courtyard, the Outlook Tower and the exhibitions. Add an hour if you plan to eat at the top.
Can I get to the top of the tower with a pushchair or wheelchair?
No. The Outlook Tower is reached by a spiral staircase with no lift. The funicular and the main courtyard are step-free, so most of the castle is still reachable.
What happens if it rains?
The castle stays open and most of what you have paid for is indoors or under cover. The view from the tower is the part that suffers, so if the forecast is bad, tell us and we will move your date.
How do I receive the ticket?
By email, as a mobile e-ticket with a QR code. Show it on your phone at the funicular or at the castle entrance — there is nothing to print.
Is this the official castle website?
No. We are an independent concierge service that buys the official ticket for you and answers questions in English. You can also buy directly from the operator at ljubljanskigrad.si.
Who is this not for?
If you have only a couple of hours in Ljubljana and you would rather spend them by the river, skip the castle — the view from Prešeren Square is free and the old town is the better use of a short stop.
Can I change the date?
Usually yes, if you tell us before your date. Reply to your confirmation email and we will sort it.
